FRANCES LIEF NEER
(1915-2007)

OBITUARY

Frances Lief Neer, born February 6, 1915, in Far Rockaway, NY. Married Izzie Joe Neer; mother to William Neer and Amy Neer. Attended Brooklyn College and University of Connecticut and became a professor of early childhood education. Also earned a gerontology certificate at San Francisco State University and a Masters in Low Vision Studies at City College. After the death of her son William, Frances raised her granddaughter, Christine Neer. Frances began the Visually Impaired Persons (VIP) Forum sponsored by Dept. of Ophthalmology of UC Med Center. Authored several books, including Dancing in the Dark, Breaking Barriers, Perceiving the Elephant. Frances and journalist David Steinberg were close companions until David's death in 2002. Frances passed away peacefully May 28, 2007. Survived by daughter Amy Hunter of New York and granddaughter Christine Neer of San Francisco.
